Our Story
Innovating Since 1990
1990
In the Beginning...
Marathon Hardware was founded in Surrey, British Columbia by Ron Olinoski to market fasteners and hardware to the Kitchen Cabinet, Furniture and Millwork industries. In that same year, YC Tools was founded in Mississauga, Ontario by Bruce Davies and Bob Atkinson selling tools and hardware to the same manufacturers of Kitchen Cabinets, Furniture and Millwork.
1995
A Partnership is Formed
After years of steady growth by both companies, a partnership was formed where YC Tools purchased Marathon and the new Marathon Hardware was born.
1996
The Expansion
Marathon Hardware expanded into the Alberta market, establishing a branch location in Calgary and dramatically increasing the company’s client base and potential to be a national player in the industry.
1998
Going West
A fourth Marathon branch opened. This time in Edmonton to better serve the Alberta market and begin to close the market gap on western Canada.
1999
Western Expansion
Marathon opened its second branch in British Columbia, fifth in all of Canada. The new Kelowna based branch further solidified and expanded Marathon’s market share in western Canada.
2011
Going Digital
An extensive website was launched, showcasing Marathon’s product selection and establishing online ordering capabilities to better serve clients. The addition of a digital representation for Marathon would also allow the business to expand into surrounding markets by making the lineup accessible to more potential customers.
2012
Ontario Expansion
Marathon opened a second location in Ontario to serve customers that are located north of the GTA. The Barrie location would be Marathon’s sixth location companywide.
2015
A Major Milestone
Marathon celebrated 25 years in the hardware business thanks to the support of loyal customers, strong supplier relationships, and the efforts of the entire Marathon team.
2018
A New Face of Marathon
A complete overhaul to the Marathon brand, website and a newly developed social media strategy offered a greater experience for existing customers, and potential new ones. Marathon expanded it’s customer focus from cabinetmakers and home builders into the interior design and architectural communities.
