Professional Cabinet Refinishing vs. DIY

When a full renovation is outside your budget, cabinet refinishing is a quick way of attaining a whole new look. Aimee Cichuttek, a Sales & Design Consultant at Paint Core asks, “If the kitchen is still relatively in good shape, and the functionality works, then why destroy it? Especially real wood!” She explains how a simple kitchen revamp over an entire renovation can have impactful results. “Small modifications are made all the time, like replacing the countertops/backsplash and even putting in new appliances or a hood fan. The cabinets, most of the time, just need a new look and some small repairs. Adding some knew handles or knobs can change the look completely.”

Why Hire a Professional?

Paint Core specializes in cabinet refinishing. They understand that many homeowners would love to completely renovate their kitchens. However, refinishing cabinets and adding some new hardware gives ample opportunity to create a whole new look while potentially saving thousands of dollars.

It can also save a lot of time that the average person may not have to spend. Aimee explains, “Our process is very quick and hassle free. We take the doors away for 10 business days, everything can stay inside the cabinets so our clients still have full use of the kitchen for the two weeks. Typically, the onsite spraying takes one day. Even while spraying in the kitchen, the client can leave all their things inside. Two weeks is minimal compared to ripping out the entire kitchen and having chaotic renovations that could take weeks, sometimes months, and most have delays.”

Another great reason to hire a professional refinisher is the quality of the job being done. Paint Core has a spray booth in their shop and also sets up a spray booth within your home. They mask every square inch of the area with plastic to avoid over-spray from getting onto your valuables. They then spray the paint onto the doors and cabinets, eliminating the potential for unsightly brush strokes and paint roller marks, giving your cabinets a consistent “factory finish”. Paint Core can also spray any wood or wood-like surfaces such as wall units, fireplace mantels, bathroom vanities or mudroom cabinets, to provide even more consistency in your desired aesthetic.

Today's Cabinet Trends

Aimee adds some insight into what Paint Core sees as the most popular trends when giving your home a facelift. “Most of the kitchens we refinish are being sprayed white. White is a timeless classic, definitely a safe choice because white matches with everything.  A big trend this year would have to be blue or grey cabinets. Sometimes we spray two colours in the same kitchen to give some contrast. For example white upper cabinets and dark blue base cabinets and island. The best part is the colour possibilities are endless. The client can choose any colour from any paint store or we can colour match.” Paint Core has even colour matched a woman's nail polish because she loved it so much.
